I am fixing some dings in my Orange GMC. I mixed the paint and hardener as directed but the orange paint was supposed to dry (cure?) in an hour. I let it sit overnight and it is stull verry tacky. The temp here is 75 degrees with 85% humidity. My question is, if I leave it alone will it dry eventually when the sun comes out? Or am I in trouble? It was sunny yesterday when I started the project now we are in for a couple days of rain.  I do fine art painting in oil sometimes and I know that red takes longer to dry than other colors. I am wondering if it is the same in boat paint - Maybe I should have used more hardener for the red.

I'd say something's not right, it shouldn't take that long to dry with hardener in it!  Keep in mind I'm pretty new to the painting (with hardener) stuff, I've only done one boat (current project) with it.  It was about 80* in the mornings when I painted mine, but pretty high humidity.  The cool temps and high humidity may be having a factor in it, I'd give it a day or two more to see if it cures?

Is it paint, or that putty stuff you were talking about getting? Two part as in epoxy, or something else?

GELCOAT-PASTE from West Marine with the coloring agents mixed in. It's a clear gel. Not really a putty. I mixed the black and that dried in an hour like it was supposed to. I'll give it a few days of sun and see what happens.

So it was a sunny day today and the paint dried. I guess the red does just take longer to dry.
