I am in the process of restoring a 1959 Larson All-American 160, which was a dilapidated yard find in 2000, when my wife purchased the boat, motor and trailer for my birthday for $250. Through multilple stages, mostly by trial and error, and with the help of a retired fiberglass boat manufacturer, I have replaced the transom, stringers and floor, and re-gelcoated the entire boat. We are currently (November 2013) waiting for new upholstery to be finished, and completing a re-build of the 1959 Mercury Mark 55 AE motor. I plan to keep the old cable and drum steering system, and found an old 2-handle 1950's Quicksilver control box and cables in good shape at a boat show. The goal is to keep the boat as original as possible, and to use it as a family boat, though it may end up in a boat show occasionally.
